Hi, I’m Danielle “Danny” Bush: How Resilience and Purpose Built Fun On The Run Plus One

Have you ever found yourself on a path you never planned to walk? That’s exactly how my journey into technology began. I wasn’t a tech person by trade or training—it found me. A friend called, asking for help training companies on how to use their new products. At the time, I didn’t know the first thing about technology, but I said yes.

What started as a nervous leap into the unknown turned into a 15-year career as an IT Project Manager. I worked with big names like Cisco, Verizon, and Bank of America, leading projects, managing teams, and solving complex problems. I loved the work, not just for the technical challenges, but for the way it allowed me to connect technology with real-world solutions.

But life has a way of adding layers to your story. And while my professional life was thriving, my personal experiences were shaping a deeper purpose—one I wouldn’t discover until years later.

The Hurricane That Changed Everything

When Hurricane Katrina hit, it left devastation in its wake—homes lost, families torn apart, and lives forever changed. I lost my grandparents in the storm, and with them, a piece of the foundation I had built my life on. That experience taught me the pain of isolation and disconnection in a way I could never forget.

Years later, when COVID-19 struck, the world faced that same loneliness on a global scale. The feelings of fear, isolation, and helplessness hit close to home. I couldn’t ignore the parallels, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being called to do something.

That’s when the idea for Fun On The Run Plus One was born.

From Problem to Purpose

I envisioned an app that could bring people together—not just for fleeting interactions, but for real, meaningful connections. Using AI and geo-mapping technology, Fun On The Run Plus One connects people based on shared interests and hobbies. It’s designed to help users discover activities that boost their mood and improve their mental well-being.

This wasn’t about creating another app to scroll through—it was about building a tool to get people out into the world, meeting others, and creating memories.

Starting this business wasn’t easy. As a single mom, I poured every ounce of energy into making this dream a reality. Some nights, it felt impossible. But slowly and steadily, we started to gain momentum.

Milestones That Matter

Looking back, I’m proud of how far we’ve come. Fun On The Run Plus One has hit some incredible milestones:

  • We developed our prototype, filed for a patent, and secured our trademark.
  • We were accepted into the Dallas Mavericks MBA program, earning their sponsorship and recognition for our innovative approach to mental health.
  • We partnered with the UTD Capstone program, gaining sponsorship to expand our mission even further.

These accomplishments aren’t just professional wins—they’re proof that when you stay the course, even in the face of challenges, you can create something truly meaningful.

Lessons in Resilience

Let me be honest: this hasn’t been a smooth road. This past year, I faced some of the toughest challenges of my life. I lost my job, my father passed away, my son was hospitalized for three months with a mysterious illness, and my daughter suffered a concussion that required a month-long hospital stay.

Each of these moments tested me in ways I didn’t think I could handle. But if surviving Hurricane Katrina taught me anything, it’s this: resilience isn’t about never falling—it’s about getting back up, over and over again.

What Sets Fun On The Run Plus One Apart?

Fun On The Run Plus One isn’t just another app. It’s a bridge for people who feel disconnected. It’s a space where genuine relationships are formed and where mental well-being is prioritized.

Our app helps people discover activities they love and find others who share their passions. Whether you’re into yoga, hiking, or even ghost hunting, Fun On The Run Plus One creates opportunities for connection that feel authentic and meaningful.

What sets us apart is the heart behind the technology. This isn’t just about algorithms or features—it’s about creating a movement that reminds people they’re not alone.

Looking Forward

As I reflect on this journey, I see a platform that’s changing lives. I see a movement built on resilience, purpose, and the belief that connection is essential to a meaningful life.

And I see a mission that’s just getting started.
